Tips for exfoliating face, body and lips
Taking care of your skin is so important, and even more important during pregnancy/post pregnancy.
Exfoliating your face and skin is one of the best things you can do. It helps with many issues. Whether you have dry skin or oily or somewhere in between exfoliating will help! Even if you have normal skin, exfoliating can help brighten the skin.
In addition to skincare, herbal wellness remedies can also be beneficial during pregnancy/post-pregnancy. Some traditional herbs used in Indonesian Jamu drink recipes, such as ginger and turmeric, are known for their anti-inflammatory properties and can help alleviate symptoms such as nausea and swelling, herb wellness remedies by JUARA, also promote overall health and well-being. Incorporating these remedies into your routine can help support a healthy pregnancy and postpartum experience.
Some benefits of exfoliating are:
Brightens skin, unclogs pores, prevents and fights acne, helps products penetrate deeper, evens skin tone, boosts circulation, increases cell turnover, stimulates collagen, removes dead skin and prevents dead skin build up, reduces fine lines, softens skin, promotes smoother skin, helps prevent ingrown hairs (very important to exfoliate body before shaving – skin will be smoother and help with irritation). The list goes on and on with the benefits!
It can seem like a whole extra step to exfoliate, but if you consistently exfoliate you won’t need as much makeup (yay for saving time) and your body will feel so soft that you won’t need as much lotion! So it’s a win win!
About a year ago, I started using a body wash line that covers many different body needs. It’s called Naturium. A skin and body care company. It’s sold through their website, Target and some items are on Amazon.
They are a treatment based line. So not just simple basic body or face products, but products made with specific ingredients to help with every skin type. From acne, dry or oily skin, blackheads, large pores, hyperpigmentation, dullness, fine lines, melasma (dark spots-common during pregnancy), and so many other skin concerns/issues.
While they have amazing face products, I want to mainly share the body washes/exfoliators and one ingredient to look out for in their products. Pregnancy can take a toll on your body so having products that can help your body look and feel its best will just help you feel better!
Naturium’s body washes include: niacinamide serum body wash(more about niacinamide later on), exfoliating scrub and body mask (not technically a wash, just an extra exfoliating step plus treatment), hydrating wash, salicylic acid wash (safe to use as a face wash), smoothing sensitive skin wash, glycolic acid exfoliating wash(safe to use as face wash), multi-vitamin wash, and brightening vitamin C wash.
I love that there is such a wide range for all skin types and bonus points for a couple of them are also safe as a face wash! I even like to mix some together or switch them around often.
For exfoliating purposes I would get the exfoliating wash! Which is safe to use daily and not harsh at all. You won’t even feel like you’re exfoliating, but just washing your body like normal.
For face exfoliation I like to do it a couple times a week or daily when using a super gentle one.
I’m always trying new ones but some staples that I love are:
Sonia Roselli’s Sex-A-Peel (which is what I use to skin prep all those I do makeup on), all the Tatcha ones (different kinds for different skin types-also try Tatcha’s skin Softening rice wash, it’s my absolute favorite face wash), Cetaphil extra gentle exfoliating scrub, and Naturium fermented rice enzyme exfoliant cleanser.
An extra bonus to exfoliating would be taking off the peach fuzz off your face. It may sound scary, but I promise it’s not and super easy!
Stay tuned for my next blog post with skincare tips for pregnant women as I talk about my tips for face razors, moisturizing lips and dealing with dark spots.
