It’s that time of year when thoughts turn to how we can improve, goals are set and our minds focus on the things that matter most. As parents there is nothing that matters more to us than our children. As a mom of three children who are all pretty much teenagers I’ve learned a few lessons over the years. One hard lesson I learned is the importance of being in pictures with my children. So my most recommended New Year’s resolution for moms is to be present in photos with your children.

I know as a mother that it is often hard to get in front of the camera. Whether we feel like we aren’t picture-perfect ready, not happy with what we are wearing, need to fix our hair or lose a few pounds, we always have an excuse to not be in photos with our children. While we will always have our favorite photos of our children, their favorite photos will always be the ones with their mommy in it – New Year’s resolution for moms.

I’ll never forget the time I sat with a child looking through an album of photos from a family vacation to Hawaii. “Why weren’t you there mommy?” Of course I was there! I took all those lovely photos. But I wasn’t in a single image so my daughter, who was young at the time, didn’t have a visual memory of me from that vacation. After that experience I have been determined to be more present in photos with my children.
