The months and weeks leading up to the end of the year are some of my busiest and also my favorites. It always thrills me when clients make special requests for holiday and seasonal themed images. There’s something truly magical about combining the wonder of a new baby with the enchantment of the holiday season.
Holiday newborn pictures create timeless keepsakes that families treasure for generations. Whether you’re drawn to classic Christmas aesthetics with rich reds and greens, elegant winter whites and silvers, or cozy rustic themes, newborn holiday photography offers endless creative possibilities to commemorate your baby’s first season.
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite holiday newborn pictures, featuring a variety of themes and setups to inspire your own session. From traditional Christmas scenes to winter wonderlands, each image showcases the perfect blend of festive charm and newborn sweetness.

Love the fresh florals and greenery used with this beautiful swing. Images like this are always captured as a composite for baby’s safety. Santa’s sleigh setups are perennial favorites for Christmas baby photography, and for good reason. The rich contrast between deep backgrounds and festive red costumes creates striking images full of holiday spirit.
This particular setup features a vintage-inspired sleigh complete with cookies for Santa, a candy cane, and all the cozy details that make holiday newborn pictures so special. The composite technique ensures your baby remains completely safe while creating the illusion of them peacefully resting in Santa’s sleigh.

When planning Christmas newborn photos, I focus on creating depth and visual interest while keeping baby as the focal point. In these setups, layered elements like miniature trees at varying heights, wrapped presents, and ornamental details tell a story without cluttering the frame. The result is a cohesive holiday scene that feels magical yet timeless.

This nutcracker soldier is the absolute cutest. For families who prefer a more organic approach to holiday newborn pictures, nature-inspired setups offer beautiful alternatives to traditional red-and-green Christmas themes.

What a beautiful baby elf in a Christmas wreath. Combining elements like evergreen garlands, pinecones, rustic wood, and earth tones creates warmth and authenticity in your holiday baby photos. These setups work beautifully for families who love farmhouse style or natural, organic aesthetics.
Do you have a favorite Christmas movie? I think I love them all, including this cute little Elf.

How darling is this boho inspired holiday image? Not all holiday newborn pictures need to scream “Christmas.” Winter wonderland themes using whites, silvers, soft blues, and touches of gold create sophisticated seasonal images that feel fresh and contemporary.

Such a sweet little snowflake. This setup demonstrates how minimalist design can be incredibly impactful. Simple elements like a white couch, flanking evergreens, and soft lighting create an elegant scene that puts all the focus on your beautiful newborn.

Adorable little snowman taking a nap. Overhead shots offer a unique perspective for holiday newborn photography, creating artistic images that showcase creative props like snowflake arrangements in unexpected ways.

The colors of this eucalyptus wreath with the white are just so classy. Wreath designs are wonderfully versatile for holiday newborn pictures. From traditional evergreen to elegant eucalyptus, from overhead perspectives to hanging installations, wreaths frame your baby beautifully while adding unmistakable holiday charm.
This little Santa is just asking for some cuddles. Too cute! The reflection effect in this image adds an ethereal quality that elevates a simple concept into something truly artistic and memorable.

And how about this Santa taking a little break on an Australian beach before finishing up his deliveries. Santa-themed holiday baby photos range from elaborate scenes to simple portraits featuring just a Santa hat or outfit. The key is finding the right balance for your family’s style.
This cozy setup with a rustic bucket, pine branches, and pinecones creates a homey, intimate feel while still being unmistakably Christmas. It’s perfect for families who want festive images without elaborate props.

Such a beautiful little snow princess. Who says Christmas has to mean snow? For families in warmer climates or those who love beach themes, coastal holiday newborn pictures offer a fun, unique twist on traditional Christmas photography. Surfboards, lifeguard chairs, and nautical elements can be styled with holiday touches for memorable, personalized images.

If you need a hunky lumberjack to chop down a Christmas tree for you I think this is your guy. Sometimes the most stunning holiday newborn pictures are those that hint at the season rather than hitting you over the head with it. Elegant backdrops featuring winter birds, subtle holiday colors, and sophisticated props create refined images with seasonal appeal.

And this cutie frosty the snowman is sure to melt your heart. Woodland themes with painted forest backdrops, vintage wagons, and natural elements create storytelling images that feel like pages from a storybook. These setups are particularly popular with families who love outdoor adventures and want their baby’s holiday photos to reflect that spirit.

Another cute boho inspired holiday image. He just looks so cozy. Creating warmth and intimacy in holiday newborn pictures often comes down to lighting and color choice. Soft bokeh backgrounds, warm red tones, and comfortable props like upholstered chairs invite viewers into a cozy holiday moment.

For families drawn to contemporary design, modern minimalist approaches to holiday newborn pictures emphasize clean lines, monochromatic color schemes, and carefully curated props. Simple evergreens, modern furniture, and negative space create sophisticated seasonal images that will remain stylish for years to come.
Timing is crucial for holiday newborn pictures. If you want Christmas-themed photos, ideally schedule your session when your baby is between 5-14 days old, as this is when newborns are sleepiest and most flexible for posing. Since you can’t predict your exact due date, I recommend booking your holiday newborn session as soon as possible, ideally during your second trimester.
For babies due in November or December, contact your photographer early in your pregnancy. My calendar fills quickly for holiday sessions, and due to the limited window for newborn photography, spots are precious. If your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, we’ll work together to adjust the session date.
Holiday newborn photography sessions typically last 2-4 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and capturing multiple setups. We keep baby comfortable, and always prioritize your infant’s safety and wellbeing above getting the perfect shot.
Many of the elaborate setups you see, particularly those featuring baby in swings, sleighs, or hanging installations, are created using composite photography techniques. This means I photograph your baby safely positioned and supported, then blend multiple images together in post-processing to create the final magical result.
During your consultation, we’ll discuss which holiday aesthetics appeal to you most. Consider your home decor style, your family’s holiday traditions, and how you envision displaying these images. Do you prefer traditional red and green Christmas themes, elegant winter whites and silvers, rustic woodland scenes, or something entirely unique?
I have an extensive collection of props, backdrops, and accessories to bring your vision to life. From vintage sleighs to modern minimalist setups, classic Santa suits to bohemian winter wreaths, we can create exactly the style of holiday newborn pictures you’re dreaming of.
Your baby’s safety is always my top priority during holiday newborn pictures. All props are carefully sanitized between sessions, and babies are never placed in positions that could be unsafe. When you see images of newborns in hanging swings or elaborate poses, these are always either composite images or closely spotted with hands ready (which are later edited out).
I’ve completed extensive newborn safety training and have years of experience working with infants. You can trust that every precaution is taken to ensure your baby is safe, warm, and comfortable throughout the entire session.
Holiday newborn pictures are more than just photos—they’re tangible memories of your baby’s first season, keepsakes that will be treasured for generations. Whether you choose classic Christmas imagery, elegant winter themes, or something uniquely personal to your family, these images capture a fleeting moment of pure magic.
The newborn stage passes so quickly, and combining it with the wonder of the holiday season creates doubly precious memories. Years from now, you’ll look back at these images and remember not just what your baby looked like, but the joy, hope, and love that filled your first holiday season together.
