The months and weeks leading up to the end of the year are some of my busiest and also my favorites. It always thrills me when clients make special requests for holiday and seasonal themed images. There’s something truly magical about combining the wonder of a new baby with the enchantment of the holiday season.

Planning Your Holiday Newborn Photo Session
When to Book Your Session
Timing is crucial for holiday newborn pictures. If you want Christmas-themed photos, ideally schedule your session when your baby is between 5-14 days old, as this is when newborns are sleepiest and most flexible for posing. Since you can’t predict your exact due date, I recommend booking your holiday newborn session as soon as possible, ideally during your second trimester.
For babies due in November or December, contact your photographer early in your pregnancy. My calendar fills quickly for holiday sessions, and due to the limited window for newborn photography, spots are precious. If your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, we’ll work together to adjust the session date.
What to Expect During Your Session
Holiday newborn photography sessions typically last 2-4 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and capturing multiple setups. We keep baby comfortable, and always prioritize your infant’s safety and wellbeing above getting the perfect shot.
Many of the elaborate setups you see, particularly those featuring baby in swings, sleighs, or hanging installations, are created using composite photography techniques. This means I photograph your baby safely positioned and supported, then blend multiple images together in post-processing to create the final magical result.
Choosing Your Holiday Theme
During your consultation, we’ll discuss which holiday aesthetics appeal to you most. Consider your home decor style, your family’s holiday traditions, and how you envision displaying these images. Do you prefer traditional red and green Christmas themes, elegant winter whites and silvers, rustic woodland scenes, or something entirely unique?

Safety Considerations
Your baby’s safety is always my top priority during holiday newborn pictures. All props are carefully sanitized between sessions, and babies are never placed in positions that could be unsafe. When you see images of newborns in hanging swings or elaborate poses, these are always either composite images or closely spotted with hands ready (which are later edited out).
I’ve completed extensive newborn safety training and have years of experience working with infants. You can trust that every precaution is taken to ensure your baby is safe, warm, and comfortable throughout the entire session.
