A couple weeks ago I posted the first three images in a series I had been planning for months. The images celebrate two of my great loves, newborn photography and classic paintings. If you haven’t seen the first three images inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Starry Night, Claude Monet’s Water Lilies and Edvard Munch’s The Scream you can view them by clicking on this link.

This week in honor of Vincent van Gogh’s birthday I am excited to share the next three images in the Newborn Photography Masterpiece Collection. The first is inspired by van Gogh’s iconic Vase with Twelve Sunflowers. The background was created by hand dyeing wool as well as using a variety of colored yarns to create the sunflower shapes. The leaves are from bits of hand dyed wool. The wraps and bonnet are a part of my enormous collection of newborn photography props.

The next image was inspired by the ethereal classic by Claude Monet titled La Promenade or more popularly known as Woman with a Parasol. This sweet background was made entirely from hand dyed wool. The dress and veil were created from scraps of fabric donated by my awesome mom. How sweet is this little model!? I love the movement in the sky created by her pose and the textiles.

The final image in this set of three is inspired by one of my favorite series of images by Edgar Degas. His depiction of form and movement in his series of dancer paintings are remarkable. I’ve taken inspiration from his work titled Dancers in Blue. This backdrop was created entirely by using hand dyed wool. This was the most difficult in the series for me to capture the colors and design intended by the artist for their masterpiece. In the end all of these images are my very loose interpretation of their iconic artistry. My hope is to create something that is recognizable and celebrates the original artist while highlighting my own aesthetic. The darling onesie my “dancer” is wearing was made by the talented Swoon Couture Props and the tutu was my design.Lindsay Walden Photography

I am thrilled to be partnering with shepswool.com and their fine quality wool for my future projects. More designs from the Newborn Photography Masterpiece Collection coming soon!
